Kay
Name: Kay Clark Miculek
Age: 49
Marital status: Married
Children: A 23 year old son, 22 year old daughter, and 11 year old daughter.
Residence: Princeton, Louisiana
Educational background: BS from Louisiana Tech in Animal Science. NRA certified instructor in everything they offer.
Career:
My husband and I own several firearms related businesses. Bang, Inc. is the company that handles our firearms training ventures. We also own a retail gun store in Bossier City, Louisiana called Clark Guns & Personal Safety. We are also partners in MCC, Inc. which owns and operates the Shootout Range in Princeton, Louisiana.
What age did shooting interest start?
My father was a national shooting champion and world class gunsmith. I was born into a shooting family. I thought all families spent their weekends at the range. My interest in shooting was unavoidable. It’s what we did.
What type of shooting sports and hunting activities do you enjoy?
I love action pistol because it is always changing. Each stage offers a new and different challenge. I also like the fact that there is no perfect score. No matter how good you do, there is always room for improvement.
Other hobbies beyond shooting sports and hunting?
I have participated in a number of sports from softball, to canoeing, to ping-pong. At this point in my life work and shooting monopolize all of my time.
Most memorable moment:
My most memorable moment was watching my husband Jerry shoot against Jethro Dionisio in the finals at the Handgunner World Shootoff in 1997. I’ve never seen a more exciting moment in shooting. After being down by three bouts Jerry came back with four staight wins to take the title. I’ve never seen a shooter more “in the zone”. It was beautiful.
What was the turning point that made you want to become a “champion”?
I love competition. I can honestly say that I get a bigger thrill out of competing at a World or National level match than I do from jumping out of an airplane. Winning is just icing on the cake. It’s the thrill of competition that keeps me coming back.
Who was most instrumental in getting you involved in shooting?
Undoubtedly my father. He was my hero.
List of titles/records/achievements:
Two time IPSC World Champion-Open Division
Nine time USPSA National Champion-Open Division
Eleven time USPSA 3-Gun Champion-Open Division (Including three top ten overall finishes.)
Five time Steel Challenge Champion-Open Division
One time USPSA National Champion-Limited Division (A sweet win because I finally beat Lisa Munson whom I consider far and away the best Limited Woman shooter on the planet.)
I have been a member of the USPSA Women’s Gold Team since 1993.
List of equipment you prefer to use:
I shoot STI guns. My Open IPSC gun is a Brazos Custom in .38 Super. I have an identical Brazos Custom in 9mm for steel shooting. My Limited gun is a STI 30th Anniversary model. For 3-Gun I shoot a DPMS rifle and a Remington 1187 shotgun.
Do you compete in any other sports?
I compete in a number of different shooting sports besides IPSC. As I get older and my feet slow down I am finding that I enjoy steel shooting more and more. The Steel Challenge and Handgunner World Shootoffs are a blast. I also enjoy shooting the Sportsman’s Team Challenge because my children often join me to participate in this match.
