Career: US Army Shooting Team, Glock, Inc., Smith & Wesson
What age did shooting interest start and why? I was 14 when I started shooting competitively with my father. My interest in shooting sports was sparked much earlier though when I used to go shooting with my Dad and watch him compete in IPSC matches when I was small. I grew up watching Leatham, Barnhart, Koenig, Miculek and Jarrett along with lady greats Sheila Brey and Kippi Leatham.
What type of shooting sports and hunting activities do you enjoy? I enjoy pretty much all shooting sports. Being on a range and shooting has become a lifestyle for me. I don’t get to do it much now, but I have always enjoyed hunting, especially with my dad as well. They are great times I always look back on with fond memories.
Other hobbies beyond shooting sports and hunting? Reading, writing, spending time with loved ones, maintaining my website, video editing, mosaic art
Most memorable moment in shooting: Being named US Army Female Athlete of the Year. It was the result of winning Back to Back USPSA Open and Limited Nationals and Steel Challenge in 1999. It was a phenomenal shooting year for me and was wonderful to be recognized by my peers, but to earn the honor of Athlete of the Year, as an action shooter, was a huge moment in my career. I remember when public affairs told me I had been nominated, I was shocked and honored, but when I actually won… I couldn’t believe it. Receiving the award in Washington D.C. and being recognized by generals and important political figures was an experience I will never forget.
What was the turning point that made you want to become a champion/become better shooter? I can remember coming home after pasting targets and picking up brass, working Miller Invitationals in Fulton, NY with Dad during the summer, after watching my idol, Sheila Brey, compete and shoot very well against the men. Being a strong, bold and successful lady shooter, I wanted to step into Sheila’s shoes and become a champion too.
Who was most instrumental in getting you involved in shooting? I am a Daddy’s girl. He is the one who introduced shooting to me and gave me the tools to succeed. My Mom has been huge factor in my success too. She has been on the sidelines cheering me on and has always been there to help me grow as a person. She always knows when to ask me about my shooting and when not to talk about it too. I am very, very lucky to have such supportive family.
