What age did shooting interest start? - Introduced to shooting at age 8, by my father. I was a bored city kid at our summer cabin in the mountains, so my dad taught me how to shoot a pump pellet gun to keep me busy. It was love at first shot! Life has never been the same since.

What type of shooting sports and hunting activities do you enjoy? - IPSC…of course!! Occasionally shoot some trap (shotgun) with my husband. Enjoy plinking with a .22 rifle. As for hunting, I concentrate on bagging the “elusive A-zone”, but I’ve discovered they’re not very good eatin!

Other hobbies beyond shooting sports and hunting? - Mountain hiking (rock scrambling), kayaking, tomahawk/knife throwing, home improvement projects.

Most memorable moment in shooting. (competition or on the range in general) - Wow, after 20 yrs. of competition it’s hard to pick out just one memorable moment. My one regret is that I haven’t kept a journal. One of my favorite things to do when I travel to matches, is getting together with my shooting buddies and sharing old stories.

What was the turning point that made you want to become a champion/become better shooter? - When I first began shooting IPSC, it was my good fortune to live in the same region as the (then) current IPSC Ladies World Champion – Kerry Lathwell (Canada). I was able to shoot with her on a regular basis, so I had an excellent role model to build my shooting skills with.

Who was most instrumental in getting you involved in shooting? - My husband Eric. Our first date was going to an indoor range, where he introduced me to NRA smallbore rifle shooting. We competed for several years together as juniors. He’s almost forgiven me now for beating him at the 1978 State Championships, using his rifle! Seriously, without his support and encouragement I probably wouldn’t be as active in the sport as I am today! He’s become my main gunsmith, so whatever achievements I make are definitely a team effort!

List of titles/records/achievements - 8 National Ladies Titles ( 5 Limited, 2 Limited 10, 1 Open). Master Class – Open Division. Only woman to achieve Master Class- Limited Division.

List of equipment you prefer to use - Sponsors: SV Infinity, Montana Gold Bullets, CR Speed holsters, Armscor, Hodgdon Powder

Do you compete in any other sports? - Enjoy playing table tennis (Kay Miculek plays a mean game of “combat ping-pong”!) During the winter months I join a co-ed volleyball team.

Any comments/reflections on women & guns, women & shooting sports or women in competition in general? - One of my most fulfilling projects the last couple of years has been co-instructing with Kay Miculek, and Julie Goloski at the BWB Ladies Camps. It’s been a wonderful experience meeting all these women, and helping teach them fundamental techniques to begin participating in the wonderful sport of IPSC! By feeding off their enthusiasm, it’s given me the positive reinforcement and motivation to improve my own shooting skills.
